Florida football the new favorite for 5-star LB Harold Perkins?
Florida football just hosted five-star linebacker Harold Perkins last week and now he’s back on the market after decommitting from Texas A&M.
Texas A&M had the No. 1 recruiting class of all-time heading into Monday, but Harold Perkins quickly changed that, decommitting from the Aggies just three weeks after committing.
With the top linebacker in the country back on the market, there are some big names in play such as LSU and Florida football. The Tigers are going to get a visit from him next weekend to close out his scheduled officials and Florida got one on Jan. 14.
The timing of this decommitment makes one think that seeing Florida and meeting Billy Napier changed things. Maybe he liked what he saw with the Gators so much that it caused him to rethink things.
There’s another program in play that has been mentioned quite a bit: Jackson State.
Deion Sanders has been poaching top recruits left and right to join Jackson State and that includes the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 class.
But the team to beat right now, in my opinion, has to be Florida.
The Gators don’t have a ton of depth at linebacker heading into the 2022 season and the potential to play right away has to be intriguing for Perkins. He could be Napier’s first big star on the defensive side of the ball and a potential three-year starter for the Gators in the SEC.
While Texas A&M offered the opportunity to compete on one of the best defenses Jimbo Fisher has ever had with the incoming No. 1 class of all time, there may be a clearer path to start at Florida and play meaningful snaps right away.
LSU could change things this upcoming weekend, but right now, Florida has to be the team to beat.
