3 reasons 5-star QB Caleb Williams will choose Wisconsin Football
Wisconsin football has suddenly emerged as a serious contender for five-star quarterback transfer Caleb Williams and here’s why the move makes sense.
You have probably heard it close to a million times this offseason, but the transfer portal is changing college football recruiting and the battle for 5-star quarterback Caleb Williams is just the latest example of that.
Williams, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2021 recruiting class, had an impressive season last year for Oklahoma but entered the transfer portal after Lincoln Riley left OU to be the head coach at USC.
So when Williams announced he was entering the transfer portal, combined with USC QB Jaxson Dart entering the portal too, it seemed like a forgone conclusion that Caleb Williams would follow his old head coach to USC.
Williams even had a final two of LSU and USC. However, as College Gameday’s Lee Corso is fond of saying: “Not so fast my friend.”
Wisconsin football, yes the Badgers, have made a push for Caleb Williams and according to Evan Flood who covers Wisconsin football for 247 sports, they are a serious contender.
Wisconsin football has even got a prediction for Caleb Williams from the On3 prediction machine. All seven crystal ball transfers are favoring USC football but time is running out on that front and here are three reasons why Wisconsin football fans can get excited about adding Caleb Williams.
The timeline isn’t great for USC
USC has been seen as the favorite since the day Caleb Williams entered the transfer portal. But LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, UCLA, and now Wisconsin are all in the mix.
And it doesn’t feel like Williams is all that close to a decision, which works against the Trojans who need him to make a decision today if he’s going to enroll in time for spring football.
The deadline for USC is Jan. 28. Today. So if Williams doesn’t make an announcement today, that’s very good news for Wisconsin football and the rest of the teams involved in this recruitment.
It doesn’t mean Williams couldn’t still go to USC and arrive after the spring semester. But it seems less likely and lends credence to the momentum Wisconsin has right now.
