Ranking Nebraska Football’s top 5 additions from transfer portal
2. Omar Brown, CB
Nebraska football lost multiple starters in the secondary, both at safety and at cornerback, so it shouldn’t be a surprise to see Omar Brown, a defensive back from Northern Iowa, make this list.
Brown was ranked as the top cornerback out of Minnesota in high school and has plenty of experience for the Panthers and was named to HERO’s FCS Sophomore All-American Defensive Team after 33 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and three pass breakups in seven games.
Brown could probably help at safety too if needed, but the Huskers are looking for a starter opposite of Quinton Newsome at cornerback and Nebraska’s highest-rated transfer seems like the guy.
1. Casey Thompson, QB
It was clear that Nebraska football needed a change at quarterback. Who knows if Casey Thompson will prove to be an upgrade over Adrian Martinez, but Thompson led the Big 12 in touchdown passes last season with 24 and under the tutelage of Mark Whipple, who coached Kenny Pickett last season at Pitt, the offense should thrive.
The defense has improved during Frost’s tenure and it should be good enough to get this team to a bowl game if the offense can find a way to be competent when it counts.
Thompson could be a big part of that and while Chubba Purdy can’t be counted out, Thompson seems ready to lead this program back to a bowl game.
