Florida Football: 3 future opponents the Gators should schedule
1. Clemson Tigers
The good news about this matchup is that’s it’s happened before plenty of times and Florida actually leads the series 9-3-1. The bad news is that the last matchup occured all the way back in 1961. No, the two programs have not met since Woodstock. That’s just insane.
Four of the final five meetings between the two were decided by a touchdown or less which made up for the first seven which were mostly blowouts (save 1929’s 13-7 Florida win). Getting these two matched up again would be good for college football and, believe it or not, there are some ties between Florida and Clemson as of this offseason.
Billy Napier actually got his coaching start at Clemson in 2003 as a grad assistant following a football career at Furman. He then went to South Carolina State for a year before returning to Clemson in 2006 through 2010 where he ended his Tigers career as the offensive coordinator.
While most Florida fans probably haven’t thought much about Clemson, it would be a good test for the program to face one of the nation’s top powerhouses and you know Napier is just chomping at the bit to face his former program which got him started in the college football world.
