2411. Lincoln, Nebraska. Georgia Southern . Sept 10 . 3. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Georgia Southern has a new head coach in Clay Helton, who went over there from USC, and who knows who could be coming to play for him at quarterback.

But there is still going to be a big talent difference and Nebraska football shouldn’t have an issue winning this game at home. Yes, Frost and Nebraska have lost to Group of Five teams at home before but that was with a backup quarterback so I don’t really see it happening this season.

Final score: Nebraska 41, Georgia Southern 20 (3-0)

You might think that this is the kind of game that Nebraska football always finds a way to lose and you would be right. Even last year in Norman, the Huskers could have won without some untimely mistakes and an absolutely terrible day on special teams.

Yet, Nebraska has upgraded both the punter and kicker positions in the transfer portal, and while we can’t say for sure that quarterback will an upgrade with Casey Thompson, the former Texas QB does have experience against Oklahoma and I see him having a solid game next fall too.

The Sooners are also going through a transition. Brent Venables will keep the defense playing at a high level but Lincoln Riley is gone and Dillon Gabriel is expected to be the starting quarterback. He was solid at UCF but we’ll see how that transition goes.

It’s going to be tight but I think sort of like Michigan-Ohio State last season, the atmosphere for this old rivalry game will be insane and Nebraska football fans, players, and coaches will be rabid for a defining win in the Frost era and I’m going to go out on a limb and say he gets it, thanks to a big assist from the kicking game.

Final score: Nebraska 23, Oklahoma 20 (4-0)
