Purdue is a team on the rise under head coach Jeff Brohm and the Boilermakers should be one of the better teams in the Big Ten West this season, especially with Aidan O’Connell returning at quarterback.

The Boilermakers have beaten a lot of good teams at home over the years and knocked off unbeaten Michigan State, as well as winning at Nebraska.

Following a road loss to Rutgers, Nebraska drops its second game in a competitive game, but O’Connell will be able to make the difference in a win for the home team.

Final score: Purdue 38, Nebraska 27 (5-2)

A win over Oklahoma and a loss to Rutgers during the first seven games really does sound like Nebraska (well outside of beating Oklahoma) but if the Huskers head into the bye week 5-2, fans will be happy, even if there will be some concern about back-to-back losses (from this prediction).

But Nebraska football gets a bye week after Purdue and the Huskers will be back at home against Illinois. The Huskers should have beaten Ilinois last year but turned the ball over in critical spots and left a lot of points on the field.

That won’t happen this time around and with an impressive win, Nebraska finally reaches bowl eligibility under Scott Forst.

Final: Nebraska 41, Illinois 24 (6-2)
