LSU Football: Way-too-Early 2022 Depth Chart Projection
Linebacker
Starting Inside Linebacker: Micah Baskerville
Backup: Harold Perkins
Starting Outside Linebacker: Mike Jones Jr
Backup: Gregg Penn
LSU football is going to have to do their best to replace one of their best defensive players from last season, linebacker Damone Clark. The good news for LSU is they have experienced players and just signed the top linebacker in the country. There could be a depth problem, but LSU has players at the position.
The return of Micah Baskerville is going to be vital for the defense. Baskerville was the second leading tackler for the Tigers last season behind Clark. It is a safe bet that he will lead the team in tackles this season playing in the middle of that defense.
Mike Jones Jr will likely get the first crack at being the starting outside linebacker. Jones Jr had a nice finish to the season but needs to be more consistent. If he can’t play better, five-star linebacker Harold Perkins will be waiting to take over. Expect to see Perkins on the field plenty for LSU regardless. He is that good.
