2. Texas Longhorns (Last title: 2009)

Everything is bigger in Texas, including expectations.

When you’re the head coach of the Texas Longhorns, you’re expected to lead the program to titles and national accolades. That hasn’t happened in Austin in what seems like ages.

It’s actually been 13 years since the Longhorns won a conference title and there’s a chance that 2009 will be the last-ever Big 12 title for them as they’re set to move to the SEC in the coming seasons. But there’s a good chance that Texas will be the most talented team in the Big 12 this upcoming season with a strong recruiting class coming in and Quinn Ewers at quarterback.

Ewers comes over from Ohio State as one of the best recruits in the 2021 class and he could be just what Texas needs at quarterback to take that next step and he’ll have Bijan Robinson (arguably the nation’s top running back) behind him and Xavier Worthy to throw to.

The defense must improve, but this roster can contend with anyone in the Big 12, and with Lincoln Riley leaving Oklahoma, the conference might be Steve Sarkisian’s to lose in 2022.
