5 college football teams that could end conference title droughts in 2022
1. Texas A&M Aggies (Last title: 1998)
Texas A&M has never won an SEC title which isn’t all that shocking considering the Aggies made the move from the Big 12 in 2011.
So in a decade, Texas A&M has been title-less.
But spanning back to 1998 when Texas A&M was still a member of the Big 12, the Aggies were in a lengthy drought. Yes, it’s been 23 years for a storied program like Texas A&M without a conference title which is nothing short of a failure.
That’s why Jimbo Fisher was hired in College Station.
Kevin Sumlin wasn’t getting the job done so Texas A&M went out and hired Fisher away from Florida State where he got his start and actually won a national title back in 2013. However, he hasn’t even won an SEC West title yet. That could very well change in 2022.
Texas A&M brings in the best recruiting class in college football history along with Max Johnson to push Haynes King at quarterback so this offense should be in good hands. Couple that with the fact that Texas A&M just beat Alabama for the first time under Fisher and you have a team with confidence and it believes it can beat anyone.
Maybe this is finally the year for the Aggies.
