2. A great situation

Oregon State football has been improving over the past four years under Jonathan Smith and last year, the Beavers had a breakthrough of sorts posting a 7-5 record in the regular season before losing to Utah State in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Smith was a former walk-on that became a starting quarterback for the Oregon State football program and he’s been a great hire for the Beavers. His record is 16-28 over four years but he’s quietly been a really good offensive coach.

Over the past three seasons, Oregon State has thrown a total of 58 touchdown passes as a team compared to just 13 interceptions. Chance Nolan is expected back after an up-and-down season that included 10 interceptions.

Yet, Nolan led the Beavers to a bowl game but if Smith was happy with his quarterback situation, Daniels wouldn’t have visited.

As Oregon Live reported, Daniels isn’t expected to make a decision soon. He still needs to graduate from Georgia and will probably wait until after spring ball.

Thamel’s tweet said “The vibe of the program is appealing to Daniels” and a big part of that has to be Smith, who seems like he could get high-level production from JT Daniels.
