Big 12 Football: 10 newcomers who’ll have instant impacts in 2022
By Dante Pryor
Lyn-J Dixon, RB
Anytime a team can sign a veteran running back from a top-tier program, it is a positive. That is the case for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Lyn-J Dixon brings a winning pedigree and loads of experience from Clemson to Morgantown.
Leddie Brown, last season’s leading rusher, is gone which leaves room for competition at running back. Dixon is sure to get the opportunity to be the featured running back, though he was never RB1 at Clemson. The worst-case scenario is Dixon becomes the leader of a running back by committee.
Adrian Martinez, QB
If Nebraska transfer Adrian Martinez can stay on the field, this could be one of the sneaky-good signings of the transfer portal. A backfield featuring Martinez and Duece Vaughn could cause headaches for opposing defensive coordinators.
Martinez, a four-star and top 150 recruit out of high school, is an instant upgrade over Will Howard with Skylar Thompson done at quarterback for the Wildcats. Martinez is an athletic upgrade from Thompson with an ability to break long runs in the open field.
