Notre Dame football has the No. 1 recruiting class in 2023 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and the Irish could add to that elite haul soon.

Not long ago, we broke down college football teams off to hot starts in the 2023 recruiting class, and Notre Dame football is near the top of the list.

The Irish are ranked No. 1 right now in the 2023 team recruiting rankings for college football according to the 247 sports team rankings and according to the On3.com team rankings, Notre Dame football is No. 2, meaning the Irish class is elite so far, by all accounts.

And the good news for Irish fans is that it looks like it will only get better.

What’s next for Notre Dame football recruiting

The top target on the board is five-star quarterback Dante Moore. The quarterback from Detroit is elite and the Irish are putting on the full-court press. Michigan was the first to offer and has long been considered the favorite.

However, the Irish have pulled ahead in this race and with Moore visiting this weekend, Notre Dame will certainly try to close. We’ll see if that happens.

But, Notre Dame has momentum either way and the Irish are now trending with four-star wideout Braylon James, a top-100 wideout from Del Valle, Texas.

Notre Dame hosted James over the weekend for an unofficial visit and the crystal ball projections have been coming in hot ever since with three total for the Irish to land the 6-foot-2, 175-pound receiver ranked 12th in the 2023 class at his position and 15th in the state of Texas.

A pair of Notre Dame reporters put in picks for the Irish but Steve Wiltfong did too and all three of the predictions were logged with a confidence level of seven on a scale of 1-10.

Notre Dame already has nine four-star commitments in 2023. Eight of them are ranked as four-star recruits according to the 247 sports composite rankings and Keon Keeley is a five-star who is ranked 10th overall.

James would also fill an important need in the 2023 class for the Irish. Notre Dame did sign Tobias Merriweather in 2022 but two others that were committed — C.J. Williams and Amorion Walker — flipped to USC and Michigan, leaving just one wide receiver signee in 2022.

And when trying to attract an elite quarterback like Moore, landing a top-flight pass-catcher is never a bad thing.
