Texas A&M football, Florida are trending with 4-star targets in 2023
Texas A&M football is trending with another top-100 recruit, this one in the 2023 recruiting class, while Florida is also getting crystal balls for a 4-star RB.
While Texas A&M football can’t exactly get every single college football recruit it wants right now, it sometimes feels that way.
The Aggies signed the No. 1 recruiting class in college football last season and of all time according to the 247 sports composite rankings. At least, Texas A&M’s recruiting class was the best in the history of those rankings.
Attention now shifts to 2023, especially after Texas A&M football added another five-star to its 2022 class in Lebbeus Overton just last week, because the Aggies have just three pledges in 2023 and currently rank outside the top 10 of the 2023 team rankings (via On3).
The decommitment of Eli Holstein certainly didn’t help. He was a top-100 quarterback, yet the Aggies have a pair of four-star defenders committed and that number could easily grow soon as Jayvon Thomas, a top-100 defensive back, is trending with crystal ball projections to A&M.
Thomas is a 5-foot-11 cornerback out of Dallas, Texas, and is ranked as the No. 79 overall recruit in the 2023 class according to the On3 consensus rankings. He’s ranked ninth at cornerback and 14th in the state of Texas.
Texas A&M football has built an elite recruiting operation but it all starts with the state of Texas and a commitment here would generate some much-needed momentum in 2023 for A&M.
And since the On3.com prediction machine gives A&M a 96 percent chance of winning this recruitment, it feels like a matter of when, not if, Thomas commits to the Aggies.
Florida football continues its move for top-5 running back
A few weeks ago we touched on Florida football and its pursuit of four-star running back Treyvaun Webb, who is ranked as the No. 5 running back according to the 247 sports composite rankings and the consensus rankings from On3.
Oklahoma and Georgia had received crystal ball projections at one time before Steve Wiltfong put in a projection for Florida football last month.
The problem, at least for Gator fans, was that the confidence level was very low. But since then, Florida has been trending with even more predictions, and in the past few days, four more recruiting experts (six total now) have projected Webb to UF.
We said it was going to be important for Billy Napier to keep top talent close to home and Webb, who is ranked 151st overall according to On3’s consensus rankings, would be a really good start, especially as a top-30 recruit in the state in 2023.
On3’s prediction machine puts the percentage of Florida winning this recruitment at 62 percent with South Carolina trailing significantly at 31 percent.
So unless something drastic happens, Webb will wind up as a Florida Gator, giving the Napier a nice in-state recruiting win, as well as one of the best running backs in the 2023 class.
