Florida football is trying to build some positive momentum on the recruiting trail and is a contender for five-star running back Richard Young.

Billy Napier has been doing his best to get recruiting back to the level expected of the Florida football program and a key part of that effort is keeping talented players close to home.

One of those is Richard Young.

Young, a five-star running out of Lehigh Acres, Florida, has narrowed down his search to seven schools. He is ranked as one of the best among all running backs (No. 2 overall) in the 2023 class.

The seven schools Young is considering include Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M as well as the Florida Gators.

Young visited Florida football on April 1.

What 5-star RB said about Florida football visit

“With their program changing, and what Napier has been doing, recruiting me heavily,” Young said to 247 sports. “I am still looking at that.”

Young is a highly coveted running back who has stated that running back coach Jabbar Juluke has been his main point of contact throughout the recruiting process with the Florida Gators.

“He’s been a good person around me right now,” Young said of Juluke. “We are going to see how this recruitment goes. He lets me know he wants me there and wants me to be a part of the Gators.”

The Florida Gators have been developing a reputation for building a family atmosphere and ensuring that players as well as recruits feel welcome and wanted.

“When Coach Napier came to my school, he told my coach to tell me to just give them a chance to recruit me. That has made it seem different with how they want to make sure that guys know they are wanted.”

Young is coming off an impressive junior season posting 1,755 yards on the ground and averaging 9.0 yards per carry.
