Where Ochaun Mathis fits on the depth chart

It’s hard to believe that Nebraska would put on the full-court press for Mathis and not have him playing a starring role this fall for the Blackshirts.

Mathis was an All-Big 12 performer last season and while he’s had two seasons with fewer than 2.5 sacks, he also had a season of 8.5. So he’s proven he can get to the quarterback and cause havoc.

Garrett Nelson and Caleb Tannor combined for seven sacks last season and regardless of who starts, all three should get plenty of snaps. That depth will be critical especially late in the Big Ten season.

Frost and the Huskers need to get a bowl game. That’s the goal this season and the addition of Mathis should help with that. He should improve the pass rush, and the defense altogether, which should, in turn, lead to more wins, which is what Nebraska desperately needs.
