5 college football quarterbacks with something to prove in 2022
There are a lot of college football quarterbacks with something to prove heading into 2022 but here are five that need to prove a specific point in 2022.
Whether it’s college football or the NFL, there is no position more pressure-packed than quarterback.
Quarterbacks get much of the credit when a team wins, and much of the blame when a team doesn’t. C.J. Stroud of Ohio State is a great point. He threw for 484 yards against Oregon, as well as three touchdowns and an INT in a loss, plus for 394 yards and two scores in a loss to Michigan.
Stroud could have maybe played better in those games, but was it really his fault that Ohio State lost? The defense certainly had something to do with it and after all, the star quarterback wasn’t the one unable to stop the Hassan Haskins train last November.
Still, Stroud is looked at as a really talented quarterback, who hasn’t really won anything. Yes, He led Ohio State to the Rose Bowl, but he hasn’t won a championship, and most importantly, he didn’t beat Michigan.
So we’ll start our list of college football quarterbacks with something to prove with Stroud, who faces as much pressure as any college football player heading into 2022.
C.J. Stroud has to beat Michigan
Stroud was a Heisman finalist for Ohio State last season and down the stretch, he was incredible. But he couldn’t carry Ohio State past Michigan and unless he beats the Wolverines this season, his career will always be incomplete.
Stroud could win the Heisman and lead the Buckeyes to the playoff, but if there was a loss to Michigan along the way, his legacy would be tarnished forever.
If you want to be a great Ohio State quarterback, you can’t go 0-2 as a starter against Michigan. So that game will define Stroud’s career and if he doesn’t win it, nothing else he’s achieved at Ohio State will matter.
Certainly, a Big Ten championship and a national championship are goals too, but those won’t be achieved without beating the Wolverines.
