Nebraska football has been busy with transfer portal additions this spring and another could be coming from Texas wide receiver Marcus Washington.

USC and Ole Miss may be getting most of the attention when it comes to the college football transfer portal, but Nebraska football has been doing some damage too.

The Huskers have added 14 transfers total and one of the biggest names from the early transfer portal window was former Texas quarterback Casey Thompson, who led the Big 12 in passing touchdowns last season and is expected to be Nebraska’s starting quarterback.

However, just since spring football ended, Nebraska has been busy. First, the Huskers beat out Texas for prized edge rusher Ochaun Mathis, which was an impressive recruiting win considering his former head coach, Gary Patterson, is now on staff at UT.

Then, Nebraska football added defensive tackle Devin Drew from Texas Tech, as well as safety Kaine Williams of Alabama and Stephon Wynn, a four-star star DT also from Alabama.

Those moves are about adding reinforcements and depth at key positions on defense where Nebraska lost some veterans. But the Huskers are now projected to land another transfer portal target and he could be far from a depth option.

Marcus Washington is projected to Nebraska

Texas has a loaded receiver room with a pair of transfer portal additions but one departure for the Horns from last season was Marcus Washington.

The 6-foot-2, 189-pounder didn’t put up huge numbers at Texas after being a top-200 recruit out of high school, but last season, he caught 18 passes for 277 yards and two touchdowns.

That’s an average of 15.4 yards per reception and what makes the addition of Washington even more exciting for Nebraska is his rapport with Thompson.

Thompson is already going to have that trust developed with Washington, who is from St. Louis and has two years of eligibility remaining. The Huskers have also added former LSU wideout Trey Palmer from the transfer portal, as well as Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda from New Mexico State.

Nebraska football received a crystal ball projection for Washington to wind up in Lincoln and I’m sure more will follow or possibly a commitment soon.

And if Washington does wind up in Lincoln, it will give Thompson and the Huskers yet another talented receiver for the 2022 season and one that’s produced in a major conference and has played with Nebraska’s expected starting QB.

All in all, that seems like a solid move for Nebraska football.
