Breaking down 4-star additions for Oregon Football, Stanford in 2023
Oregon football is building a solid recruiting class in 2023 and the Ducks added to it with a four-star commitment on Monday; Stanford did the same.
USC may have the top-ranked recruiting class so far in the Pac-12 when it comes to the 2023 recruiting cycle, but Oregon football and Stanford both landed solid pieces on Monday.
Oregon picked up yet another four-star commitment in 2023 according to the On3.com consensus rankings as new head coach Dan Lanning continued a solid string of pickups with the verbal pledge of four-star safety Kodi Decambra out of Las Vegas.
Decambra is 5-foot-11, 173 pounds according to his On3 profile and he’s ranked No. 248 overall in the On3 consensus rankings, as well as third-best in the state of Nevada.
For the Ducks, it’s the sixth commitment of the 2023 class and so far, five of those six have been blue-chip prospects. Mario Cristobal recruited really well for Oregon football and established the Ducks as one of the most talented programs in the country, as well as the Pac-12.
Standford, Colorado, and Oregon State among others were in the mix, but it was pretty clear for a while that Oregon football was going to win this one. Here’s his scouting report from On3:
"“Highly athletic safety who plays for one of the nation’s top high school programs. A standout in the combine setting, running a 4.54-second electronically-timed 40-yard dash and posting an outstanding 41.9 inch vertical at 5-foot-11, 178 pounds. Plays as a deep safety for Bishop Gorman. Has the speed to run with receivers on vertical routes. Shows the ability to high-point the football in contested situations.”"
Oregon football is ranked 12th right now in the 2023 class according to the On3 consensus team rankings but their blue-chip percentage (number of four and five-star recruits) is over 80 percent so Lanning and the Ducks are off to a really good start.
They are also trending up with five-star QB Jaden Rashada, as the Ducks are now the leader for the top-100 signal-caller according to the On3.com prediction machine. Rashada is expected to announce his commitment later this month.
Standford adds fifth commitment in 2023
Stanford football really struggled last season but the future might be a little brighter than some expect it to be. The Cardinal have a talented young quarterback in Tanner McKee ready to start for the 2022 season and David Shaw still knows how to coach/recruit.
Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program and while things were a struggle on the field last year with a 3-9 record, the Cardinals have signed a top-25 class in three of the last four years under Shaw and in 2023, they are trending towards making it four in five years.
That effort was aided on Monday by the commitment of four-star cornerback Jshawn Frausto-Ramos who is ranked 312th overall and is the 30th-ranked cornerback in the entire 2023 class, out of Mission Hills, California.
Frausto-Ramos is the third four-star pledge of 2023 for the Cardinal who moved up to 18th in the team rankings for 2023 (On3).
It’s important for the results on the field to square with what happens on the recruiting trail but even after a down year or two, Stanford football is adding top talent and that’s a good sign.
