Florida Football: Post-spring 2022 game-by-game predictions
Florida football is entering the Billy Napier era and that means expectations are being adjusted. How will the Gators fare in 2022?
The end of the Dan Mullen era was a forgettable one. Just one year after making the SEC title game behind Kyle Pitts, Kadarius Toney, and Kyle Trask, Florida football took a massive step back, going just 6-7 with a 2-6 mark in conference play.
Mullen was let go and the Gators went out and made a splash, hiring Billy Napier from Louisiana who had been considered one of the top coaches in the Group of Five for years.
With his first spring in The Swamp in the books, Napier is looking to lead the Gators back to the top of the SEC East, but that’s not going to be a simple task.
How will Florida fare in 2022?
Kicking off the Billy Napier era with this one is going to be exciting but also a tough draw for the Gators. On one hand, it’s a chance to take down one of the nation’s top teams and earn respect, but on the other, it’s a tall order for a team undergoing a ton of changes.
I think Florida keeps it close because it’s at home, but Utah gets the last laugh thanks to a strong showing from Cameron Rising.
Prediction: Utah 24, Florida 21 (0-1)
Being able to bounce back from a tough opening loss would be big, especially against an SEC rival like Kentucky, and I see the Gators doing just that.
Will Levis might be one of the SEC’s best quarterbacks and the Wildcats are fresh off a 10-win season, but they’re losing so much on both sides of the ball that it’ll be hard to replicate that success. Florida will take advantage.
Prediction: Kentucky 27, Florida 31 (1-1, 1-0 SEC)
