Texas A&M Football: 3 reasons Aggies will make a playoff run in 2022
1. The quarterback situation is going to improve drastically
A year ago, Haynes King was injured just one game into the season, and everyone kind of lost hope because the hype surrounding the freshman quarterback was palpable.
Zach Calzada took over and passed for 2,185 yards and 17 touchdowns with nine interceptions. He was just good enough to lead the Aggies to an 8-4 season but not good enough to take them to another level and have them compete for titles.
King can be that guy for Texas A&M this season now that he’s healthy. He is a dual-threat quarterback who has drawn comparisons to Johnny Manziel and he raises the ceiling of the offense.
Along with King, the Aggies bring in Max Johnson from LSU and he could be a legit starter with plenty of SEC experience. He could elevate this offense as well. There’s really no going wrong with either choice and both are better options than Calzada — no offense to him.
If that’s not enough, the Aggies also bring in five-star quarterback Conner Weigman from Cypress, Texas.
The quarterback room is much better and that’s just the start of a special outlook in 2022.
