Can Terry Bowden lead ULM Football to a bowl game in year two?
By Dante Pryor
ULM football finished 4-8 in Terry Bowden’s first season. Can the Warhawks get to a bowl game this fall?
WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes’s very first theme song was “Smoke and Mirrors.” That theme song is the perfect way to describe the Warhawks’ 4-8 2021 season. Lousiana-Monroe Football or ULM had a -13 point differential, surrendering over 50 points in three of its losses (all three conference games, by the way).
Head coach Terry Bowden showed the same ability to rebuild ULM football the way he made Akron a viable program in the MAC. They found a way to upset Liberty and South Alabama. After their win against the Jaguars, they were 4-3 with two winnable games left on the schedule. ULM proceeded to lose their last five games.
In its defense, the Warhawks last five games included Appalachian State, Louisiana, and LSU (it played the Ragin’ Cajuns within one score).
So much of what made ULM football competitive last season is gone. Offensive coordinator Rich Rodgriguez is the new head coach at Jacksonville State. The defense loses four key players from last season’s roster, but much of last season’s returning production is back.
Matt Kubick returns to the Bayou as the offensive coordinator replacing Rich Rod after serving in the same capacity from 2016-2019. Can the Warhawks find those two wins that eluded them last season?
Here is a look at the offense, defense, and schedule.
