While some teams are taking all the headlines in college football recruiting, here are four that have struggled so far in the 2023 class.

College football recruiting is fluid and one thing we have to remember is that it’s still just July and there is a long way to go until early national signing day.

But even then, the fireworks don’t stop as the late recruiting period lasts through February (even beyond) and that’s when the 2023 college football recruiting class will finally be in the books.

That doesn’t mean that some programs shouldn’t be worried about where they stand and how they have been trending this cycle and with the July dead period nearly over and unofficial visits ramping back up, along with more official visits in the fall, here’s a look at four teams that have disappointed so far in 2023 college football recruiting.

Texas A&M football

It might be too early to panic about Texas A&M football’s 2023 recruiting class but as of right now, the Aggies are ranked 63rd overall according to the 247 sports team rankings with just five commitments.

Two of those pledges are rated as top-100 prospects but Eli Holstein, a top-100, four-star QB flipped his commitment from Texas A&M football to Alabama, and to be frank, it’s been a painful summer as Jimbo Fisher and crew have landed just one verbal pledge (from a three-star).

Texas A&M is going to improve its standing. There’s no question about that. The Aggies are in the mix for a number of elite recruits and they wil surely land some talented players in their own state.

But they are going to have to flip a quarterback such as Baylor QB commit Austin Novosad and others too if they want to build a really strong class.

Maybe there is some heat on the program due to all the “pay for play” allegations surrounding the 2022 recruiting class which signed eight five-star recruits and 18 total ranked in the top 100.

That class was going to be hard to match in 2023, but so far, it’s hard to categorize Texas A&M’s recruiting efforts in 2023 as anything but a disappointment.
