Florida football on the verge of landing top-100 CB Dijon Johnson?

Florida football is close to landing one of the best cornerbacks in the 2023 recruiting class in four-star Dijon Johnson.

Before the month of July, Florida football’s 2023 recruiting class was looking rather bleak.

In fact, the Gators had just eight commits and none of them were ranked in the top 200, according to 247Sports. Now, Florida is up to 16 pledges with five of them being top-200 kids and the class has jumped all the way to No. 12 nationally. That could soon become six top-200 kids if the current trend for Dijon Johnson means a commitment is on the horizon.

The four-star, top-100 prospect is ranked the No. 93 recruit in the class and he’s the 10th-best prospect, per the composite. He’s been trending heavily toward the Gators for the past week and the crystal balls on 247Sports favor Florida heavily.

Florida could jump into the top 10 with Johnson committing to the Gators and 247Sports Southeast Recruiting Analyst Andrew Ivins compares him to Marco Wilson of the Arizona Cardinals.

This would be a huge recruiting win.

The impressive athlete from Tampa, Fla., took an official visit to Ohio State in June and then decommitted from the Buckeyes less than two weeks later. Why? Well, because he took an unofficial trip to Gainesville on June 29 — he decommitted from OSU one day later.

All the signs here are pointing to the Gators landing the four-star cornerback who would become Billy Napier’s second-best pledge in the class and the top defensive back.

A month ago, Napier was receiving plenty of criticism for average recruiting but now he needs all the praise as he’s turned things around quickly.
