UNLV won just two games a year ago and I don’t see much improvement coming for the Rebels this season although Marcus Arroyo’s squad can’t get any worse. They might win 3-4 games this year, but after going 2-16 over the past two seasons, no one is expecting anything here.

Long story short, this game is going to be over by halftime with the Irish winning by about five touchdowns and picking up some confidence before heading into a tough stretch in November.

Prediction: Win (6-1)

One final confidence-boosting game that should lead the Irish into November with some momentum, traveling to Syracuse could also be a trap.

The Orange are sometimes tricky to beat in the Carrier Dome, especially in the middle of the year against tough opponents — just ask Clemson. Dino Babers may be coaching for his job here so I expect a close game but the Irish will pull away late to make it a 10-point win — it’ll be much closer than the final indicates.

Prediction: Win (7-1)
