The Billy Napier era is set to begin in Gainesville, but how will Florida football fare in its first season under the new head coach?

Billy Napier is hoping to have better luck with Florida football than Dan Mullen did, but some believe the Gators gave up on the veteran head coach too soon. I mean, he was just a year removed from an SEC title game appearance.

That’s in the past, however, as Napier takes over in The Swamp with a roster that could make some noise in 2022.

Will the Gators be able to bounce back and make a respectable bowl game in 2022? If Anthony Richardson has anything to say about it, the answer will be yes.

In the spring, I had Florida losing this season-opening game against Utah. The Utes are fresh off a Rose Bowl berth and the best season they’ve had under Kyle Whittingham but I just see the Gators taking advantage of a huge home game that can provide some momentum for the rest of the year.

The Gators win this one on the arm of Anthony Richardson who I see becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. A last-minute field goal seals the win.

Prediction: Win (1-0)

Another tough game awaits on Sept. 10 as Kentucky comes to town following a 10-win season in 2021. Mark Stoops and the Wildcats are looking to prove John Calipari wrong and show that they’re not just a “basketball school” and rather an “everything school.”

Will Levis returns for his senior year at quarterback and he’s going to be better than last year but it still won’t be enough to upend the Gators in The Swamp. Florida sneaks by with another close win.

Prediction: Win (2-0, 1-0 SEC)
