If you would have asked me who would be No. 1 on this list two months ago, I would have told you my pick is Jadarian Price. The four-star running back flashed brilliance in the spring game, accounting for over 100 all-purpose yards and he turned heads left and right, but he tore his Achilles and will miss the entire season.

My second option is obviously Tobias Merriweather.

Reports during fall camp are all positive about Merriweather and this should make Irish fans incredibly hopeful for a breakout.

Merriweather is having a big fall so far and he’s only been on campus for a few months. The Irish need some receivers to step up with Kevin Austin Jr. gone and the lead returning pass-catching being tight end Michael Mayer. The top receiver back from last year is Braden Lenzy who had just 32 catches for 350 yards. Avery Davis is back, too.

Having a freshman the caliber of Merriweather vault up the depth chart is good for the Irish and it just means that he’s going to push to make the rest of the corps better.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see him start at some point this year. And I think he should.
