Week 0 of the college football season is nearly upon us and as we look ahead to the 2022 season, here are five teams poised for significant turnarounds.

There are few things better than college football and after months of offseason chatter and waiting patiently, the 2022 season finally starts this weekend.

There aren’t a ton of marquee games on the slate. There isn’t even a team ranked in either (coaches or AP) college football top 25 playing this weekend.

But does it really matter? It’s the appetizer to the meal that is the 2022 college football season. Week 0 is like the chips and salsa before the main course comes along.

It will wet our beaks for more and on that front, the 2022 season should be an exciting one especially as a number of powerhouses programs are poised to turn things around.

At the very least, places like USC, Texas, Florida, Miami, and Nebraska have more hope than they have had in years past and we touch on each as we project five significant turnarounds (at least three wins better) among the power five conferences.

Florida football

I recently wrote about why people should buy stock in Florida Football heading into the 2022 season and while the Gators aren’t talked about much, they will be by season’s end.

Anthony Richardson has the potential to be a star. He flashed some last season but things were just a mess under Dan Mullen, which led to a 6-7 campaign for the Gators.

This Florida football program is still loaded with talent. It’s one of the most talented teams in the country and Napier will do a better job of utilizing that talent. The schedule in 2022 isn’t all that challenging.

Utah comes to Florida to open the season. There are also road games against Tennessee, Texas A&M, and the game in Jacksonville against Georgia.

Kentucky has to come to the Swamp and I’m not a believer in the Vols just yet. That’s why I see Florida putting together at least a three-win turnaround in 2022. It will feel like a bigger turnaround though because the Gators will be ranked most of the season and their game against Texas A&M will essentially be a New Year’s Six play-in game.

Projected turnaround: six wins to nine.
