Ranking the College Football Week 2 upsets
Washingon State at No. 19 Wisconsin (-17)
This wasn’t an upset I had on my radar at all going into Week 2 of the college football season. Wisconsin normally beats up on teams like this but Washington State was impressive.
Not only did the Cougars hold their own against Braelon Allen, limiting him to just 98 yards on 24 carries, but their offense also came through in the clutch.
Quarterback Cameron Ward, who was one of the most underrated additions this offseason in the transfer portal, wasn’t perfect on Saturday but threw for 200 yards and a game-winning touchdown against a really stingy Wisconsin defense at Camp Randall.
Nakia Watson also had a helluva game for the Cougars. The former Wisconsin running back only rushed for 33 yards in the game on 10 carries but he scored Washington State’s first touchdown and also the last on a 31-yard reception to help beat the Badgers.
Graham Mertz was better but with this defense, all it takes to win is 20 points or so and if Mertz can’t get Wisconsin there, the Badgers need to find someone who can, especially someone who can make a play or two without a dominant running game.
