College football Week 3 winners and losers are here after a number of blowouts and reaffirming wins from many top-ranked teams

If you like blowouts, this was a great week of college football for you. Across the scoreboard, teams were getting blown out. And these weren’t all necessary Power 5 vs Group of 5, a number of these blowouts were Power 5 vs Power 5 matchups.

Georgia smoked South Carolina by 41 points.

Minnesota routed Colorado by 42.

Penn State demolished Auburn by 29.

Ole Miss blanked Georgia Tech, winning by 42.

Oregon defeated red-hot BYU by 21.

Oklahoma piled it on against Nebraska, winning by 35.

There were a number of close games, too. Some were near upsets and some actually resulted in upsets.

Let’s dive into this week’s biggest winners and losers from Week 3 of college football.

College football Week 3 winners

Let’s check out my winners from this week.

Winner: Pac-12

The Pac-12 balled out in Week 3 of college football. Several teams won big-time games, showing that they belong in the conversation among the elite programs in the country.

It started with No. 25 Oregon, who demolished No. 12 BYU at home in Autzen Stadium. The Ducks gave up just seven points heading into the fourth quarter, ultimately making a huge statement, winning 41-20.

Now that we have three weeks’ worth of data, that Week 1 loss to No. 1 Georgia is kind of understandable now. There’s Georgia and then there’s the rest of college football.

In other parts of the Pac-12, Washington routed No. 11 Michigan State at Husky Stadium 39-28. Giving them new Head Coach Kalen DeBoer’s first big win. Huskies QB Michael Penix Jr. balled out, passing for 397 yards, 4 TD, and 0 INTs.

Washington did a great job of shutting down Michigan State’s run game, surrendering just 42 yards on the ground. Coming into this game, the Spartans were averaging 228.5 rushing yards per game.

No. 14 Utah and No. 7 USC had huge wins over Mountain West teams, as well.

Winner: Appalachian State WR Christian Horn

For the second consecutive week, Appalachian State ended their game in absolute euphoria. Last week, it was after upsetting Texas A&M on the road 17-14. The win prompted ESPN’s College GameDay to head to Boone, NC in advance of this week’s conference matchup vs Troy.

This week, it was wide receiver Christian Horn pulling in an unbelievable hail-Mary catch as time expired to give the Mountaineers a come-from-behind win in spectacular fashion. Fans stormed the field and App State survives its first conference matchup of the season.

Horn finished the game with 5 catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. His quick-thinking grab enabled App State to avoid falling in a weird conference trap game.
