Clemson football: 3 takeaways from huge comeback win over Syracuse
1. Syracuse has been an absolute thorn in Clemson football’s side
For whatever reason, Dino Babers just has Dabo Swinney’s number. Although Babers is just 1-6 against the Tigers, he always seems to coach his best game against Clemson and take them down to the wire. Well, at least half of the time.
Saturday marked the fourth one-score game between the two sides since Babers took over. Last year, Clemson snuck away with a 17-14 over the Orange in the Carrier Dome. Back in 2018, it was Chase Brice who did what Cade Klubnik did on Saturday and engineered a comeback with the starter on the sidelines, beating the Orange by four in Memorial Stadium. And in 2017, Syracuse got its first win in the series since 1996.
Maybe Syracuse should play Clemson every week. At least we know it’ll be a great game.
The Tigers have to feel a sense of relief leaving this one with a win because things looked ugly late in the third with them trailing 21-10. Luckily, Will Shipley woke up and the offense got a breath of fresh air.
Now all the Tigers have to do is relax until the next time they play Syracuse in 2023.
