2. Bronco Mendenhall, former Virginia HC

I know what you’re thinking: Bronco Mendenhall stepped down as Virginia’s head coach last year, so why would he even consider coming back two years later? It’s a good question, but he’s already been linked to other openings and it sounds like he wants to get back into coaching at the right program.

Stanford could be that program.

The Cardinal have a strong culture there, built by Jim Harbaugh and David Shaw, and Mendenhall is the kind of coach that could make it even stronger. He’s a program builder and he proved that at both BYU and Virginia, going 99-43 with the Cougars and 36-38 with the Cavaliers. Both programs were in shaky spots when he took over.

Sound familiar? Stanford is in a bad spot right now after four straight seasons of four or fewer wins and Mendenhall is the perfect coach to fix that.

If he wants to get back into the coaching ranks, Stanford would be a really good spot for him.
