1. Chris Petersen, former Washington HC

Chris Petersen’s name has been tossed around for a couple of years now every time there’s an open job on the West Coast and this is no different.

Petersen is currently a college football TV analyst and seems to love what he’s doing, but you can’t discount the draw of returning to a major program in the Pac-12 which has had plenty of success over the past decade and just needs some direction. Petersen would be a huge hire for the Cardinal and I think he should be the program’s top option to replace David Shaw.

If Stanford wants to make a program-changing hire, it needs to look toward the former Washington and Boise State head coach who has known nothing but winning throughout his career.

In fact, Petersen went 92-12 with Boise State and then took the Washington job where he went 55-26 and even made the College Football Playoff in 2016.

Stanford’s first call should be to Petersen.
