1. Washington Huskies (No. 12)

If we go by the AP Top 25 rankings, Washington would be a top-10 team this week with relative ease. But we’re not going by the AP Top 25 anymore and we have to rely on a committee that makes the final call based on ever-changing guidelines.

Washington has done enough this year, in my opinion, to warrant a spot in the top 10.

In fact, the Huskies beat No. 11 Michigan State (which has since struggled), No. 23 Oregon State, and they’ve also won at No. 6 Oregon and at Washington State. Their only losses were at UCLA and at Arizona State. Sure, the second loss there was unacceptable and should’ve never happened, but they’ve rebounded to win six straight games.

Washington has been one of the most impressive teams in the Pac-12 and the Huskies also have one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the nation in Michael Penix Jr.

If Penix played for USC or Oregon, he’d be a legit Heisman threat. Instead, the nation’s leading passer is overlooked because he plays for the 10-2 Huskies.

I’m upset at both this ranking and the fact that Penix doesn’t get enough respect nationally.
