College football: Ranking top 5 non-New Year’s Six bowls by watchability
5. Liberty Bowl (Kansas vs. Arkansas)
Kansas was one of the feel-good stories of the year and before Jalon Daniels went down with an injury in the middle of the season, it felt like the Jayhawks may shock everyone and contend for a Big 12 title.
However, after a 5-0 start to the season which led to a spot in the AP Top 25, Kansas went just 1-6 in its last seven games to finish the year with a .500 record. Not a great finish. Not even a good finish. But when you consider how poor of a program this was before Lance Leipold, you have to recognize the immense progress.
Now the Jayhawks will get an opportunity to prove themselves against Arkansas which was projected to contend in the SEC this season but fell short of its goals.
Still, this will be a fun one.
The Razorbacks, too, went 6-6 which is why they’re playing in the Dec. 28 Liberty Bowl instead of a New Year’s Six bowl. KJ Jefferson had a quietly-solid season, however. He’s going to be fun to watch in the Liberty Bowl along with a team hungry to prove that this season’s poor record was just a fluke.
I expect an underrated quarterback battle here.
