Former five-star recruit Travis Hunter set the college football world on its head with his last-minute flip from Florida State to Jackson State last signing day. The No. 1 player attending an HBCU to play football was unheard of in modern college football.

This week, Hunter created buzz once again by officially entering the transfer portal.

He announced his decision via YouTube:

It was assumed that Hunter would follow new Colorado football coach Deion Sanders from Jackson State to Colorado. However, the Georgia native intimated that he would keep his options open when deciding on a landing spot for his next school.

Where could Travis Hunter land?

The obvious choices are the two schools that were heavily involved in his initial recruitment, Georgia and Florida State. The question is whether or not Hunter wants to commit to one position or play both offense and defense like the player he’s most compared with, Charles Woodson, and his former coach.

Hunter is sure to command a large NIL deal, likely the most significant deal for any non-quarterback in the portal. He showed flashes of how good he could be when healthy last season on both offense and defense.

Colorado is also very much in the mix. According to On3 writer Chad Simmons, several other schools are looking to sign Hunter.

USC could use a talent like Hunter for a defense looking to improve its talent depth. Miami and head coach Mario Cristobal could pair Hunter with incoming No. 1 freshman cornerback Cormani McClain. Hunter could join arguably the deepest defensive back room in the country down in Athens.

He’d be paired with Kelee Ringo — if he stays — or replace him if he leaves for the greener pastures of the NFL. Hunter would then be paired with talented cornerback Kamari Lassiter and safety Malaki Starks. No matter where Hunter lands, he’ll be an impact player when he steps on the field.
