2. Joe Moorhead, Akron head coach

It’s not easy to get a head coach to take a “demotion” to an offensive coordinator role, but Joe Moorhead would have to see the Notre Dame assistant job as better than being Akron’s head man — or at least it would make a very tough decision for him.

Moorhead has been just about everywhere in recent years as he’s proven to be a really solid offensive coordinator and just a decent head coach who was quickly turned on at Mississippi State after he didn’t have immediate success and he was just 2-10 in his first season at Akron — to be fair, Akron was a perennial loser when he got there.

Becoming one of the hottest head coaching commodities after excelling as Penn State’s offensive coordinator in 2016-17, he earned that Mississippi State job.

After he was let go, he took over as Oregon’s offensive coordinator under Mario Cristobal before getting hired at Akron. Although the Zips were just 2-10, the offense was better under him than it was the year prior. He’s one of the nation’s best offensive minds and he would be a great fit in South Bend.
