Anthony Richardson might be this year’s most polarizing NFL draft prospect. The Florida football star is easily one of the most purely talented players in the class and he could make one team very happy in the first round of this year’s draft.
There has even been talk about Richardson going No. 1 overall. While I don’t see that happening, I could see a few teams either trading up for him or snagging him early in the first round.
These are the three teams that I could see taking a chance on Richardson in round one.
3. Houston Texans (No. 2 or No. 12)
There are some who believe that Davis Mills has franchise quarterback potential for the Texans. Although he did have a bit of a sophomore slump with the Texans in 2022, passing for 3,118 yards with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions on a completion rate of 61 percent, he could very well get the trust from the organization.
But Houston is in a prime position to grab a franchise quarterback in the 2023 NFL Draft, sitting at No. 2 overall behind the Bears who don’t need one after Justin Fields showed star potential.
The Texans’ offense was horrible last year but there are at least some decent pieces with Dameon Pierce and John Metchie, and that could make for an intriguing situation for a dual-threat quarterback like Anthony Richardson. Plus, reuniting Pierce and Richardson would be fun.
A running threat with a rocket arm? The Texans may say “no thanks” at No. 2 but still get him at No. 12 — but his stock is rising.
