Michigan gets its biggest commitment in years; Coach Prime lands a 2024 QB

The Michigan Wolverines landed quite possibly their biggest commitment in more than two years, while Colorado football and Coach Prime landed a 2024 QB.

Business is picking up on the college football recruiting trail. That’s been especially true for the Michigan Wolverines who hosted a bevy of elite recruits over the weekend.

There was the No. 1 EDGE in the 2024 class, Dylan Stewart, as well as five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis, top-100 running back Jordan Marshall out of the state of Ohio, as well as a bunch of four-star offensive linemen, and elite tight end Brady Prieskorn.

Michigan has started trending with a number of those recruits. Stewart isn’t one of them, but the elite pass rusher did say Michigan is near the top of his list. However, the Wolverines did land a huge commitment on Tuesday and that was from four-star running back Jordan Marshall.

Marshall isn’t just ranked in the top 100 (91st overall via the 247 sports composite rankings) but he’s from the state of Ohio.

Some of the best players Michigan has ever had have come from that state such as Charles Woodson and Desmond Howard — two of its Heisman Trophy winners.

Yet, when Ohio State started to dominate the rivalry, the Buckeyes closed off the top talent in their state to the “team up North” which helped keep things one-sided.

But that’s clearly starting to shift after back-to-back wins by Michigan football. The Wolverines won by 22 points this year and that was following a 15-point win in 2021. Michigan probably also appealed to Marshall because of how invested the Wolverines are in their offensive line and also their running game.

At any rate, it’s been a long time since a top player from the state of Ohio (Marshall is third in the Buckeye state in 2024) has chosen the Wolverines over the Buckeyes.

It’s also the first top-100 commitment for Michigan football in the 2024 class and after not getting any top-100 signees in 2024, this is the biggest commitment since signing Donovan Edwards back on early signing day for the 2021 class in December of 2020.

Now, the Wolverines need to turn this commitment into a signing at the end of the cycle. They also need to land Jadyn Davis, the elite QB they have been missing since J.J. McCarthy, who also signed with Michigan football back in 2021, alongside Edwards.

Colorado football lands 2024 QB

With his son playing quarterback for Colorado football this season, Deion Sanders doesn’t need to worry about the quarterback position in the immediate future.

However, he might need to new next year, or at least when it comes to the 2025 season and that’s where Tuesday’s news is important as the Colorado football team was able to land a quarterback commitment in 2024 from Danny O’Neil out of Indiana.

O’Neil is a three-star prospect but he’s been highly productive in high school. According to 247 sports, O’Neil has 5,610 yards passing and 65 touchdown passes over the past two seasons. He’s also rushed for 19 touchdowns during that time, giving his game an added element.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound quarterback was given a crystal ball to Kentucky recently. Purdue, Illinois, and Louisville were also in the mix, so it was a good win for Colorado football, which was also involved with Daniel Kaelin before he committed to Missouri last week.

O’Neil is the 33rd-ranked quarterback in the 2024 college football recruiting class. He’s ranked 560th overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is someone that has a chance to develop into a starter down the road in Boulder.
