More QB movement in 2024 college football recruiting class
There was more notable quarterback news in the 2024 college football recruiting class as Luke Moga has a decision date and Minnesota’s QB decommitted.
As we broke down yesterday, only five of the top 20 quarterbacks in the 2024 college football recruiting class, as ranked by the 247 sports composite rankings, are still uncommitted.
Taking it a step further, 30 of the 40 ranked quarterbacks in the 2024 college football recruiting class are already committed and more pledges are on the way.
One that we know for sure is coming this month is from three-star Luke Moga. Ranked just outside the top 500 in the 2024 class, Moga is from the state of Arizona and is the 33rd-best quarterback via the 247 sports composite rankings.
Luke Moga will also make his commitment known on April 28th according to Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports. Decision dates are generally good news for one program and in this instance, it appears that Oregon football is that program.
Wiltfong has placed a crystal ball projection for Moga to land at Oregon and the On3 prediction machine also has the Ducks as the heavy favorite. On3 also ranks Moga as a top-20 quarterback in the 2024 college football recruiting class.
Moga is expected to take a visit to Oregon football right before his decision date. That’s why the experts are feeling good about where the Ducks stand. BYU has been in the mix, but there is another quarterback that could end up with the Cougars.
Miami and Arizona State are also threats. Kenny Dillingham, the ASU head coach, is also working to land the Phoenix, Arizona QB, but Oregon football is tough to beat to recruits out West and it appears that Luke Moga to Oregon is the latest QB domino in the 2024 class, although that’s still just reading the tea leaves. A lot can change in a few weeks.
Minnesota football loses commitment from 2024 QB
It wasn’t that long ago that Minnesota landed a 2024 QB commitment as Aaron Philo pledged to the Gophers last month.
However, the quarterback out of Georgia ranked as a three-star (1,030 overall) and 63rd among quarterbacks, has re-opened his recruitment.
Georgia Tech, UCF, and Duke were the only other Power-5 programs to offer him. Tech already has a four-star QB committed in the 2024 college football recruiting class, but Duke could be one to watch after Hauss Hejny flipped his commitment from the Blue Devils to TCU.
Clemson might even be a team to watch for the Peach State signal caller. The Tigers have whiffed on a number of 2024 quarterbacks. They have to be readjusting their board and Philo is a name to watch along with some others.
Whatever the case, Philo didn’t re-open his recruitment without reason. Surely, another team is making a push and it will be interesting to see if any other programs jump into the mix, because the pickings are getting slim.
