Florida football: 3 most impactful newcomers for 2023
Billy Napier and Florida football are expecting an improvement from last season’s finish around the .500 mark. The Gators are bringing back some elite talent, but they’re also losing Anthony Richardson to the NFL which is going to be a tough pill to swallow.
Napier did address the quarterback position in the portal, so maybe that’s not as big of a concern as some may think, but there are some other big shoes to fill.
Those will be filled by newcomers, whether it’s from the 2023 recruiting class which ranked No. 13 nationally or the nation’s 17th-best transfer portal class.
Which newcomers will have the biggest immediate impacts?
Kiyaunta Goodwin is going to have a bigger impact right away than people expect. He’s currently projected to sit on the 2-deep, but I see him as a starter by the end of the season.
Goodwin was a five-star recruit out of high school when he committed to Kentucky and he had a whole laundry list of potential suitors. He chose the Wildcats because it was one of the longest-standing relationships with a coaching staff that he had and it was comfortable.
Well, after just one season in Lexington, he decided it was time for a change.
Florida offered the best opportunity to play right away and I think the Gators’ coaching staff is going to do a good job of getting the most out of him in 2023. He had endless potential and I think the staff is going to squeeze it out of him.
I see Goodwin playing a lot this year and being one of the biggest surprises on the team.
