The run of quarterback commitments continued on Sunday as Indiana football landed Timothy Carpenter. Here are some thoughts.

It’s been a wild week of college football recruiting especially when it comes to quarterbacks. Five QBs committed on Saturday and things are staying busy on Sunday as the Indiana football program landed Timothy Carpenter.

Carpenter is out of Dayton, Ohio, and is ranked 43rd among quarterbacks according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He’s 6-foot-4, 200 pounds, and is also No. 663 overall.

It’s a pretty good get for the Hoosiers after they missed on Tyler Cherry. Indiana football was in his top four but the four-star prospect committed to Duke over interest from Penn State and Michigan State.

Cherry was also one of the five quarterbacks to commit on Saturday, with four of them committing to Power-5 programs.

Things have been moving quickly as far as quarterbacks are concerned and there weren’t many of the top 50 left anyways and now there are fewer than 10 top-50 signal-callers available.

That’s why this commitment is such a nice get for Indiana. Carpenter didn’t have any other Power- offers before Indiana made an offer this past week, but those offers were likely to come especially since some teams are still in need of a quarterback commit, such as Michigan State.

Carpenter had offers from Western Michigan, Liberty, Temple, and Marshall, as well as some other FBS and FCS programs. However, Carpenter pledged after Indiana made its push.

The quarterback from Ohio is the first-ranked player to commit to Tom Allen and the Hoosiers in the 2024 class and they have four total commitments. The others are unranked three-star commitments.

Carpenter is also the top-rated quarterback commitment for the Hoosiers in three cycles who didn’t sign a top-50 QB in the 2023 or 2022 classes, although they did land four-star Donovan McCulley back in 2021.

Obviously, seeing Cherry go to Duke stings for Indiana football, but the Hoosiers have to get back on the winning track, and in the meantime, Carpenter is a pretty good option.
