Can Stanford Football land elite 2024 QB Elijah Brown?
Now that Elijah Brown is the final top-100 quarterback not committed in the 2024 class, it’s worth asking, can Stanford football land him?
Quarterbacks are coming off the board rapidly in the 2024 college football recruiting class and after a flurry that saw six quarterbacks commit from Saturday to Monday last weekend, there’s just a handful of four-star signal-callers available.
One of them is top-100 quarterback Elijah Brown who is truly one of the top options left. Brown is out of Mater Dei, the powerhouse program in California. He’s 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, and is ranked 64th overall in the 2024 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, as well as seventh among quarterbacks.
With USC fading out of the Dylan Raiola recruitment, it seemed like only a matter of time before the Trojans would take over as the favorite for Elijah Brown.
Yet, Brown took visits to Stanford, UCLA, and Arizona State this spring. Stanford football also has just one of two scheduled official visits, although the other is for USC, which still feels like the biggest threat. UCLA and Arizona State are in the mix too.
However, Stanford football appears to be the favorite right now, at least according to a couple of expert projections last month from On3.com experts Sam Spiegelman and Josh Newberg. Both used confidence levels of 70 and 80 percent out of 100, which also boosted Stanford’s chances of winning the commitment of Brown to better than 90 percent via the On3 prediction machine.
However, a lot can change quickly in the world of recruiting. UCLA and USC might be at a slight disadvantage due to five-star additions in 2023. Arizona State signed Jaden Rashada too, so Stanford might have the best path to playing time.
Troy Taylor could definitely use a quarterback like Brown, which would get the rebuilding project on an accelerated timeline.
The official visits will be key and it will be interesting to see if other contenders emerge now that Raiola and others have officially come off the board in recent weeks.
