Billy Napier is on an absolute tear. The Florida football coach has landed nine commitments in the month of June and a good number of them happen to be ranked in the top 150 nationally.

On Monday, in fact, he landed his third five-star of the class in Jamonta Waller. He also landed a three-star offensive tackle and another three-star defensive lineman.

Two days earlier, he gained commitments from four (!!) four-star prospects, all ranked in the top 250 nationally.

Florida’s 2024 class has gone from seven commitments when June began up to 16 as of June 20 with more on the way soon. The Gators have been one of the hottest teams in the country on the recruiting trail and Napier deserves some respect for the work he’s done.

He’s launched Florida all the way up to No. 3 in team recruiting rankings behind just Georgia and Michigan.

Although his first season didn’t go as planned, Napier has been able to sell the program and bring the hype back to Gainesville. He’s doing what he was brought to Florida to do.

Now all he has to do is win some games with this elite talent.

Can Florida football be a contender sooner rather than later?

Napier was hired to get Florida football back to the top of the SEC and after a rather forgettable first season outside of a Utah upset, the Gators look like they’re on the right path.

Landing the No. 13 class for 2023 and, so far, the No. 3 class for 2024, it feels like Florida is accruing the talent to compete with the big boys like Alabama, Georgia, and LSU in the SEC. If they can continue to recruit at this level, they’re going to make some noise in the next year or two.

Next year’s schedule is brutal, but with the playoff expanding, if they can win 10 games on a regular basis, we may be looking at a title darkhorse every year.
