Texas A&M is big winner from college football recruiting 4th of July fireworks
There was a ton of college football recruiting fireworks on the Fourth of July and it was Texas A&M football that came out as the big winner.
When it comes to college football recruiting, the Fourth of July is always an important date on the calendar.
For one reason, it comes right after the end of the June official visit period. College football recruiting is in a dead period right now, and after taking visits in the month of June, lots of recruits are ready to announce their commitments.
We have already seen a bunch of college football recruiting fireworks in July, even before the 4th. Ohio State shocked analysts everywhere when the Buckeyes landed the surprise commitment of five-star defensive tackle Justin Scott.
However, there were a bunch more announcements over the first weekend in July, and on the Fourth of July, nine blue-chip prospects (ranked as a 4-star or higher) announced commitments.
Missouri had a busy day, landing two four-star commitments — one from wideout James Madison II out of Florida (No. 362 overall), as well as landing Cameron Keys, a four-star cornerback also from Florida (No. 308 overall).
UCF got in the mix by closing things out with four-star tight end Kylan Fox. The Knights have been trending as the leader for weeks before the No. 229 overall prospect and 18th-ranked tight end at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, finally pledged to Gus Malzahn.
Malzahn is building quite a solid haul in the 2024 college football recruiting class with four blue-chippers out of a 10-man class so far.
Arkansas came away with a big commitment too as the No. 124 overall recruit in the 2024 class, Ashton Bethel-Roman, committed to the Hogs. The No. 19 wideout is out of Missouri City, Texas.
Texas A&M set off the biggest firework in college football recruiting
Wisconsin and North Carolina also got four-star commitments on the Fourth of July, but Texas A&M football walked away with the biggest commitment thanks to the addition of five-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman to the 2024 class.
Coleman is out of Phoenix City, Alabama. He’s also ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect in the 2024 college football recruiting class via the 247 Sports composite rankings. Here’s a scouting blurb on Coleman from 247 Sports:
"“Projects as an immediate contributor at the next level and a potential Day-1 NFL Draft choice with a rare combination of size, speed, and athleticism that differentiates him from the rest of his peers.”"
Suddenly, Texas A&M football has the ninth-best class in the 2024 team rankings via 247 Sports. The Aggies have 16 commitments total and 11 of them are blue-chip recruits. Four are ranked in the top 106 overall.
Plus, Texas A&M football is far from finished. The Aggies have a bunch of major targets still on the board, which makes it feel like another top-5 class is very much in the cards.
