Can you believe it? The 2023 season is finally here. After months of waiting, Notre Dame vs. Navy will officially kick off the 2023 college football season over in Ireland.

The two teams are meeting in Ireland for the first time since 2012 and the third time in their series history. The Irish are 2-0 against Navy over in Dublin.

Marcus Freeman has assembled a team that could very well contend for a College Football Playoff this season, led by Wake Forest transfer quarterback Sam Hartman. Navy, on the other hand, will be led by first-year head coach Brian Newberry and he’s taking over one of the worst teams in the Group of Five.

According to Google, the weather in Dublin for Saturday is supposed to be a little on the chillier side with a high of 65 degrees for the day. There are also expected to be rain showers throughout the day with 12 mph winds. So, by no means is this going to be a dry game.

Notre Dame vs. Navy series history

These two teams have met in Ireland twice before actually. Notre Dame won both of those games (the most recent Ireland matchup was back in 2012) and neither contest was particularly close.

The all-time series between these two is very one-sided. The Irish hold a commanding 79-13-1 lead over Navy and they’re currently on a five-game winning streak. Navy pulled off the upset back in 2016 and then had a nice four-year stretch when it won three games from 2007-10, but it’s been all Notre Dame otherwise.

Navy has only beaten Notre Dame four times since 1964.
