The chatter in the first game of the season for the Utah Utes was whether or not star quarterback Cam Rising would be playing. While Rising wasn’t quite ready, his backup clearly was.

The Utah Utes are hosting the Florida Gators in a grudge-match type football game coming off the heels of last year’s thriller in Gainesville, a 29-26 Florida win.

Utah’s star quarterback Cam Rising was questionable as the game approached, still rehabbing an injury suffered last season against Penn State. By game time it was announced that Bryson Barnes would be stepping in for Rising against the Gators.

After the Utes defense stonewalled the Gators on their opening possession, Barnes decided to announce his presence with authority on the Utes first play from scrimmage, hooking up with receiver Money Parks.

Just your everyday, 70-yard touchdown pass to put the Gators in an early hole.

Florida is already fighting a very hostile environment and a lot of changes on their own roster. It would appear Bryson Barnes wants to pile on the difficulties for the Florida team.

A 7-0 lead in the first quarter doesn’t mean much, but it certainly was quite a debut for the young man. We’ll see how the Gators respond throughout the night.
