Despite beating Colorado on Saturday, it’s clear that USC football isn’t going to win the Pac-12 or reach the CFB Playoff unless Alex Grinch turns the defense around.

There were a lot of positive things to take away from the USC football win over Colorado on Saturday. Unfortunately, for the Trojans, the defense wasn’t one of them.

Despite building a 28-point lead in the second half, Colorado nearly pulled off an epic comeback in the second half as Shedeur Sanders and the Buffaloes shredded Alex Grinch and the USC football defense.

Colorado scored 41 points and if the Buffaloes had used their timeouts more wisely, or if Colorado had a little more time, USC football might have been looking at overtime.

Regardless, the jury on Alex Grinch is out, at least as far as USC football fans are concerned. These are just a few of the reactions from Trojans fans:

O.J. Simpson calls out USC football DC Alex Grinch

Everyone agrees that Caleb Williams is spectacular. Joel Klatt said that Williams would be an upgrade for most NFL teams next week after his sixth touchdown pass. He also compared the USC football quarterback to Patrick Mahomes.

But the Trojans want to win a Pac-12 title and reach the College Football Playoff. USC failed to do that last season and if the defense could get it together, USC football could have a legit chance to win a national title.

However, Alex Grinch doesn’t have a defense like Michigan’s or Georgia’s. Sanders throwing for 371 yards and four touchdowns is one thing. But allowing 197 rushing yards to Colorado is another. That’s worrisome and the poor play of the defense even had O.J. Simpson calling out Alex Grinch.

If things don’t get better, it will be hard to argue with the Alex Grinch crowd because Caleb Williams is too talented to waste.
