Watch: UCF WR Javon Baker blows a kiss to Oklahoma sideline on TD catch, infuriating Brent Venables
UCF football is aiming to upset sixth-ranked Oklahoma. The effort was helped by Javon Baker who infuriated Brent Venables with a celebration as Baker blew a kiss to the OU sideline.
Oklahoma football head coach Brent Venables can’t be happy with the way his Sooners are playing in the first half of their Big 12 conference game against the UCF Knights.
Gus Malzahn and the Knights, despite their 3-3 record, are hanging tough with sixth-ranked Oklahoma football thanks to some explosive plays on offense.
One of those came after an Oklahoma football touchdown, which allowed the Sooners to take a 14-10 lead in the second quarter.
Mason Plumlee, the UCF football starting quarterback, tossed a pass up the sideline to Baker who was wide open. It was clear that he was going to score a touchdown, so he blew a kiss to the Sooners and head coach Brent Venables took exception to it.
Baker was flagged on the play. It was enforced on the kickoff and Oklahoma football was able to get a field goal out of the next possession to send the game into the half tied 17-17.
The 86-yard touchdown has the Knights in the game at halftime though, which isn’t something Oklahoma football fans were probably expecting, especially since the Sooners came in as a heavy favorite.
Yet, Malzahn has pulled a few upsets in his career and we’ll see if the Knights can keep hanging with the Sooners for four quarters.
At any rate, you can bet Venables is going to chew out the Sooners as he did the officials following Baker’s taunt.
Oklahoma is back in action for the first time since its win over Texas. A loss to UCF wouldn’t end their playoff hopes, but it wouldn’t help and could hurt the Heisman chances of Dillon Gabriel despite two touchdown passes and 169 yards from the QB.
