Looking back on College Football Week 9, here are the biggest winners and losers — led by Kansas football and Oregon who notched statement wins.

Don’t tell Kansas football fans that their school is only about basketball. That seems especially true after a historic win for Lance Leipold.

It was the first victory for Kansas football over a top-10 team since the 2008 Orange Bowl. Even wilder is the fact that the Jayhawks haven’t beaten a top-10 team in Lawrence since the 1984 season.

That was before Saturday when Kansas football spoiled the College Football Playoff Hopes of the entire Big 12 conference.

That’s not really true. Texas and Oklahoma are in the mix. But neither team can make the College Football Playoff without help and here is a look at the biggest winners and losers from College Football Week 9.

Winner: Kansas football

This Saturday should always be remembered for Kansas. It’s crazy what Lance Leipold has built in two years and it feels like there could be some sustained success if the Jayhawks can keep him.

Both Kansas programs are playing at a high level right now and should be top contenders in the Big 12. Jason Bean threw for 218 yards and two interceptions. But he ran for a touchdown. Kansas football ran for four touchdowns and also intercepted a pass and ran it back for six.

Kansas is one of seven Big 12 teams within a game of first place, so there is a long way to go, but the Jayhawks just let a bunch of teams back in the race by beating OU.
