Things are not going well for Billy Napier in his second season leading the Florida Gators. After a 6-7 season in Year 1, Napier brought in transfer quarterback Graham Mertz to help the team compete in the SEC but the Gators haven’t taken a step forward

Inevitably, Napier’s seat will start to warm up and with the aggressive win-now nature of college football, there’s a chance he doesn’t return in 2024. Florida is 5-5 with highly ranked Missouri and a College Football Playoff contender, Florida State, up next on the schedule. Florida may endure back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1978 and 1979.

Assuming Napier does survive, these are a few of his players with eligibility left, who may depart Gainesville either to the transfer portal or the NFL.

1. Kamari Wilson, sophomore

We’ll start with the bad news. Wilson was one of Napier’s prized recruits in his first class. Since then, the relationship has soured. Wilson has only played in one game this season, the 49-7 win over McNeese, after recording 39 tackles and a forced fumble as a freshman in 2022.

There isn’t much reason to believe that his reduction in playing time has to do with anything other than performance, but regardless of the reason, Wilson will likely enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Wilson was the highest-rated recruit of Napier’s 2022 class.
